I used to have a laptop like that.  I concluded that either the BIOS
does not support smart batteries, or else the battery itself was not
smart.  When I ran it under Window (yech!) it had the same behavior --
no battery reporting.  I take that back, I think I got "battery low"
warnings, but no percentages.  Can you reproduce the behavior under
Windows?
