Hardware: Toshiba Satellite 300CDS laptop Software: Linux kernel 2.2.14 and apmd 3.0final (both from redhat 6.2) Description: No problems running redhat 5.1 (Linux kernel 2.0.34 and apmd 2.4) for 2 years. But after upgrading to rh6.2 'resume' failures began imediately. On 'resume' system either locks completely, or initially responds to keyboard and mouse (but there's no disk activity) and then immediately locks completely. Workaround: Rebuilding kernel with different values for APM config parameters failed to solve problem. Finally found this discussion. Since the 'crawling CPU' problem sounded similar to mine (and I was getting desperately frustrated), I tried disabling PCMCIA services as the original poster, Adam Spiers, suggested (very misterioso, thelonious...). Setting 'PCMCIA=no' in PCMCIA configuration file (/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia in redhat) didn't fix the problem. But hiding (renaming) the pcmcia rc startup file did. Mr. Spiers wrote that the problem persisted, even if the the pcmcia modules were removed before 'suspend'. But, in this case, stopping the pcmcia service (via the rc script) allowed 'suspend' and 'resume' sucessfully. Thanks for the tip. Hope this helps someone find a fix. junya@headcity.com Index: [thread] [date] [subject] [author] |
