I installed the BIOS version 1.01 for my ThinkPad (the oldest available), and APM works.
Also, the Crystal Sound driver works for the first time -- I'm not sure whether the BIOS
was broken for the sound as well as APM, but I'm happier now.

He did, but I checked his setup and it was close enough to mine to be not useful to me as
far as troubleshooting. (I did e-mail him as well)
