The best clues I have found from the Internet > suggestthat maybe SuSE 6.1 will give me different results. I dont see why this could make any difference. SUSE is just a different install method, and setup. It is not a different OS, and the code that finally runs is identical to what you are presently using. The problem must be deeper than this. I would suggest that you contact the guy who has it working, and try to get him to help you. It must be a bios and OS setup interaction. If you have a different bios than what he has, that could be the problem. It is possible to upgrade the bios in the machine. Contact IBM and see if they have any information on Linux and your model, and your BIOS rev number. IBM can tell you if you have the latest BIOS, as well as what the bugs are in the bios you are using. For example, look at: ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/ where I expect you will find your laptop, the bios code, and a description of what to do with it. Be careful you can really screw up your machine this way. The problem is not Linux I suspect (and hope). It is more likely a improper bios, not running to spec. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. ;-( Jont > > > > Thank you for your help. > > > Josh > > > > > > I now have: > > > Linux Kernel 2.2.5-15 on RedHat 6.0 > > > I recompiled the kernel with: > > > APM enabled > > > Ignore USER SUSPEND > > > Ignore multiple suspend > > > Ignore multiple suspend/resume cycles > > > Allow interrupts during APM BIOS calls > > The pertinent part of the original log file: > > /etc/apmd_proxy suspend user > Mon Nov 15 01:42:48 CST 1999 > > /etc/apmd_proxy start > Mon Nov 15 01:45:49 CST 1999 > > > with the apm config above i don't understand the log below, because that > > looks like "multiple suspend". > > The below actually happened when I left it overnight to recompile.
