Rik Faith has transferred maintainership of apmd to me. I have a web page with my new apmd 3.0beta3: http://www.worldvisions.ca/~apenwarr/apmd/ It also points to a mailing list dedicated to apmd, which you might be interested in. If you read Linux-laptops, you might want to mention this to the people there. Hopefully we can end all the apmd hacks now that it's maintained again! In particular, the new -s and -r options allow you to run commands on suspend/resume.
