From: Jeremy Lee <jeremyl@hrmc.com.au> To : <apmd-list@worldvisions.ca> Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 11:07:01 +1000 apmd: Hard drive never recovers from suspend!!I've got a problem. Avery suggested I post it here. My machine is a nice little Compaq Aero 4/33C, running Debian 3.1. Kernel is 2.2.10, apmd is 30.beta4. Well you see, I just changed my hard drive from the little 300Mb drive it used to have to a shiny new IBM Travelstar 2.1Gb. (Model DTNA-22160) Now, the hard drive never recovers from a suspend. (The old drive did.) When the machine is resumed, it gets into an argument with the drive that goes something like this: hda: status timeout: status=0x80 {busy} hda: drive not ready for command ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=1 ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=18 ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=40 ... (a screenfull of these) ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=580 ide0: reset timed-out, status=0x08 hda: status timeout: status=0x80 {busy} hda: drive not ready for command ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=596 ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x80, count=612 ... (ad nauseum.) The 'count' numbers are vaugely wrong, because I can't type that fast. Otherwise, It's as best I can record a log file without a drive :-) Help! I never realised how incredibly useful suspend/resume was until I lost it. My current best theory is that the IBM drive has an extra couple of power modes, and is far, far more recent than the old Laptop's IDE controller. So, maybe the drive and the controller just aren't talking the same language after coming back from a suspend? Maybe if the ide drive was given a hard reset after resume it would all work? Info on the drive can be found here: http://ssdweb01.storage.ibm.com/techsup/hddtech/dtna/dtnatek.htm Alas, I haven't been able to find anything out about my IDE controller.
