Mine does suspend while on AC power and PCMCIA cards are inserted...

I think you can enable or disable this feature with the tpctl utility
(thinkpads only: http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~thood/tpctlhome.htm) 

Only problem I'm still having is that it doesn't *always* suspend at
once.
