Kernel 2.2.XX ready for laptops?

I've been shying away from installing Linux 2.2.XX on my laptop.  I
didn't want the headaches of a new compile when a new version came out
every few weeks.  With Stephen goading us to try out new kernel
patches, I suppose I'd better consider upgrading.

So, for people who are running 2.2.XX, is it pretty stable?
